On Halloween 2019 I received the call of a lifetime.

It was my transplant coordinator from University of Utah telling me I was going to finally get a transplant from an anonymous donor named Sheryce. I relentlessly had been asking my closest acquaintances for past 3 months if they would consider donating a kidney to me and it seemed hopeless. I am the first person in my family to be diagnosed with PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease).

I was completely frozen in disbelief but managed to run to go find my wife Kimberly to share the good news. The tears of joy started to flow and it was a celebration. My kidney donor, Sheryce Davis is the true hero who gave me my life back.

Sheryce was an anonymous donor who told the transplant team that same day she could donate her kidney on the 21st of November. She is a devoted school teacher and wanted to revolve the surgery around her vacation time and be able to recuperate as well before school resumed. It was important for her to be there for her students and not miss any days. This speaks volumes about Sheryce’s character and devotion to being a living donor and acting in a selfless manner to help others. My family and I will forever be grateful to her. I hope Sheryce’s act of kindness inspires other people to become Living Donors to help save lives like she did.

I am proud to say I have been involved in the launch of PKD Outreach Foundation (“pkDO”) from the start and excited for the strides we are going to make to END PKD through using proven methods to significantly reduce the wait time for anyone in need of find a living donor, and most important stopping the disease from passing to future generations.
